CERN Accelerating science

David Tshilumba

David studied Msc. Mechanical engineering at the University of Brussels (ULB). His mater thesis title was Control of final electromagnets in a linear particle collider. After graduation he worked as a research engineer at the University of Brussels working on the control of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave observatory (LIGO) in collaboration with researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University.
His job in PACMAN is first upgrading the type1 magnet prototype for nano-positioning. This upgraded setup will be integrated within the PACMAN test bench. Second, he will study the possibility to increase the stroke to the millimeter range of a stiff and high resolution positioning stage for heavy loads such as electromagnets in particle colliders.
David will join TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research) and TUDelft where he will receive training in precision technology, high accuracy mechanisms, metrology and vibration attenuation. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the TUDelft.
